Module 3: 10x Camp
To help set the stage for the work we will be doing at the 10x Camp, we’d like you to do a little bit of homework. Back home, we ask you to work on identifying problem spaces within your organisation. In March at the 10x Camp, you will present your findings before we get down to ideating!
THE PURPOSE OF YOUR HOMEWORK
Do research in your organisation to explore where there may be really interesting problem spaces that you can – eventually – turn into potential 10x solutions for your company (focus on the problems, not the solutions yet).
WHAT WE EXPECT OF YOU FOR THE CAMP
At the camp we expect you to do a 4-minute power point presentation of the research you have done.
CONSIDER STRUCTURING YOUR PRESENTATION IN THE FOLLOWING WAY:
- Background and purpose (keep it short): What is the field you have looked into and why?
- Method (keep it short): Which research methods have you used?
- Results: What areas have you explored, what problem spaces have you identified and what else have you found out?
- Next steps: What are your current thoughts on which problem spaces you would like to dive even deeper into? and why (make people understand why it is interesting to explore further)?
Whether you will end up working further with your own research or someone else’s is still open – that is part of what you will explore during the camp. Some of you (if you are the only one from your company) may also end up working alone. All this will be decided during the camp and will be based on your input.
RESEARCH METHODS TO CONSIDER:
How you go about doing the research is naturally up to you, but you can consider the following:
- Observe what goes on around you.
- Explore existing data to identify things such as customer behaviour, sales numbers, and cycles, market developments, internal work processes, etc.
- Do face to face (or Skype/phone) interviews with relevant people to explore perceptions.
- Send out questionnaires to relevant parties (make sure to clear beforehand with relevant people internally).
Whether you choose to do research within your own department or choose to look elsewhere is completely up to you. You may already know exactly in which field or area to look, or you may not, and thus have to go through a more exploratory phase before you identify relevant research areas. Either is fine. Most important is to keep an open mind and explore. Also, remember that the
If you have questions to research method and process, feel free to contact Kris at kris@sunordic.org.
ADDITIONAL RESOURCES:
In Module 3 we are getting to work. This module differs from the last modules in that it is a working camp. We will be working with concrete problems that YOU identify in your own organisations, and thinking about how to apply the input you’ve gotten from Module 1 and your experience excursion, combine it with the insights you get from the research you’re doing right now, and eventually apply all this to creating awesome concepts, innovating and solving real challenges with a 10x potential. Don’t think you need a solution right now. On the contrary: it’s important to stay in the problem – for now! Bring some of the energy and inspiration back home from your trip, and let’s get ready to get to work!
